ME v9.10 Development Updates from the VP
Version 9.10 Update being released for beta testing
- L. Dan Hughes We have finished the major code changes for the 9.10.04 release. One of the bigger features in this update is the support for Perl regular expression multiline searching. We have also added integration support for the Borland C#Builder and for the Delphi 8 IDEs as well as integration with Visual Studio.NET 2003. Since the multiline searching support required quite a bit of new code, we thought it best to run a short beta test to shake out any outstanding issues before we release it to the general public. If you are interested in helping out with this beta test, please send an email to forumadmin@multiedit.com along with your forum name. When you send in that e-mail be sure to let us know what features you would most be interested in testing.
Once accepted as a beta tester you will be given access to a secure Beta Forum. This is where you will be able to acquire your copy of the .04 release. We will also use this forum to discuss all aspects of the testing. As always, I'd like to thank you our users for helping make Multi-Edit "The Programmer's Editor". Our development process is greatly enhanced by your input and passion. Until next time, happy coding L. Dan Hughes, VP/CTO

For this newsletter I've put together what I hope to be a helpful and instructional tutorial on adding some basic language support to Multi-Edit for any previously non-existent filename extension. I also go over color customization and briefly delve into Templates. You can apply this to any file type that Multi-Edit does not currently support, but that you would like it to, and it can also be applied to your own specific flavor of an already supported file type. A more comprehensive and developer oriented tech article can be found in the Tech Article section(http://www.multieditsoftware.com/techart.htm) of our website, but this one is a little more basic and contains what I think to be some helpful screenshots also. And, if you haven't been there recently (or not at all!) you really should swing by the Forums(http://www.multieditsoftware.com/forums/) and check them out for helpful info. Not only is there the Support forum where you can post your questions concerning the product and other issues that may be more programming specific and know that you are asking a community of programmers, developers and users with years of experience not only with Multi-Edit but in the programming community at large. Also, if that isn't enough for you there is a section containing user created macros. Here at Multi-Edit we try to incorporate as much as we can into our product, but at times we are limited by the finite number of people working on it. Our users span a very broad base and there may very well be a macro that you need to implement an idea you had for making ME more specific to your needs, but that you don't have the time to write. I say, check out the User Created Macros section(http://www.multieditsoftware.com/forums/viewforum.php?f=9) and see if it has what you're looking for already. If not, post in the Support or Suggestions forum and see if someone else has the solution already but just hasn't posted it. Or, if it's something that may benefit all our users, we'll add it to a future build. You never know! So, enjoy the article and keep pounding out that code!
