Welcome to the Multi Edit Software Newsletter... An Introduction from our CEO
- Chad W. Williams Welcome back to The Developer News for February 2005! In this issue we have a number of exciting topics to present including the shipment of the Multi-Edit v9.10 printed manual, another excellent support article from Carl Hall on Mouse Operations within Multi-Edit, and the announcement of our new MeLite release NOW AVAILABLE for purchase and 30 day evaluation! First, the shipping of the printed manuals for Multi-Edit v9.10 is nearly complete, and we sincerely appreciate everyone's patience with any delays that you might have experienced. All users who have purchased the shipped release and have registered the product with MESI will be receiving their copies by mail shortly! We've completed all shipping for all domestically registered users and have begun validation and shipping to our international users. If you do not receive your copy of the printed manual over the next few weeks, please be sure to contact us and verify that you have registered your product. It is from our registration database that we verify all shipping addresses due to many consumers having purchased our product through resellers and distribution outlets. Please note that any inquiries in regards to your shipped manuals should be addressed to sales@multieditsoftware.com with a subject line of "Shipped Manual Status" and will be responded to ASAP. My next topic comes as a question. Are you seeking power, convenience, and ease of use in your Version Control package? Many Multi-Edit consumers may recognize the Corporate Sponsor for this edition of The Developer News. For those of you who don't, be sure to check out the sponsor section for Burton Systems Software. For a limited time and for a limited audience, MESI is able to offer a special discount on TLIBTM Version Control, "The most flexible version-control system on the market." And finally, the Cmac Reference Guide is nearing completion and Ken Walker has provided us with a short teaser article which I'm sure you will find interesting. Until next time, enjoy this latest edition and employ great programming with Multi-Edit! Chad Williams, CEO

Development Updates from the VP
MeLite Intro, MEv9.10 Updates, Suggestions Solicited
- L. Dan Hughes We at Multi Edit Software, are very proud to announce the release of a Lite version of our professional grade programming Editor Multi-Edit. In accordance with it's design we are calling this editor, MeLite. Through all the years we've been producing editing software, we've found that not everyone needs or wants some of the more advanced features of Multi-Edit. We have addressed this issue by providing the marketplace a competitive, feature rich "lite" IDE. MeLite contains the same editor core as the full version but for a much reduced cost. As our marketing arm describes it, "a Professional Editor that's Lite on the Pocketbook." We look forward to hearing your comments/critiques after trying this new edition, so please click the following links and test your copy today! MeLite Product information page:

On to other topics, the development of the next major version of Multi-Edit (10 or X, this has yet to be decided) is underway. We will be providing many new capabilities that will build on the MEv9.10 foundation. Please be sure to email or post on our forum any ideas/needs/desires that you would like to see in this next generation of Multi-Edit. You will find my email link and forum links below. Use them, for we appreciate hearing from everyone! As always, I personally would like to thank each and every user that has chosen to purchase and use Multi-Edit and then went on to report bugs and suggestions. This communication is vital and helps us truly make Multi-Edit "The Programmer's Editor". Until next time, happy coding L. Dan Hughes, VP/CTO

For this month's newsletter I'm going to delve into some of Multi-Edit's Mouse operations that you may not be aware of and which could prove useful to both the rookie and even the seasoned veteran Multi-Edit user. One of the most recurring questions we receive in the Support department is:
The answer is actually threefold: First, via the main menu you can set your highlighting type by going to the Edit menu and selecting Mark Line, Mark Column or Mark Stream (or use the corresponding Hotkey assignments). However, this article is about the Mouse and one of the neatest things about the program for me is the ability to click and drag on a section to highlight it and while still holding down the left button, cycle through the three different highlighting block types by clicking on the right mouse button. Remember, you must not let go of the left mouse button before clicking the right mouse button, or all you will get is the Context Menu. Speaking of the Context Menu, in using your mouse in any file type, you have a number of options available by clicking the right mouse button in your editing window. This allows you to change the way in which you work with that particular file type, on-the-fly, without having to trudge through the whole main menu of Tools | Customize | Filename Extensions, etc. Remember, just right click and go to Customize this files settings and choose from Extension Setup, Edit Templates or Language setup and immediately access and change the settings related to the current file. Next, click on OK, until you are out of the dialogs and your changes take effect instantaneously! Also provided in the Context Menu as the last option, is the ability to edit that very menu. Enjoy inserting or deleting commands as you see fit. All in all, these are some very handy techniques. So, there are some quick and helpful mouse options that should provide some stimulating services for your programming prowess. Keep up the coding! On a side note, I'd be remiss if I didn't provide a few handy links as well:
