Development Updates from the VP
Multi-Edit Lite for SAS® Intro, MeLite Update,
plus upcoming Multi-Edit Updates - L. Dan Hughes We at Multi Edit Software are proud to announce the release of another product, Multi-Edit Lite for SAS® (or MeLS for short). We took the latest version of Multi-Edit Lite, added the EZRTools package, a Multi-Edit v9.10 add-on which adds support for SAS® programming. This will make it much easier for SAS® programmers to get starting using an easy to use IDE style environment for editing their code. We are also working on update releases of Multi-Edit Lite, to fix a few of the outstanding issue such as keystroke macro playback not working, and the full version of Multi-Edit v9.10 to bring them up to the same level as MeLS. Look for these to be release in the very near future. I also want to thank each of you that have posted suggestions to our forum for features you would like to see in future versions of Multi-Edit v9.10. Please continue to post your ideas as we are considering all suggestions in regards to what we be implementing in the next major release of Multi-Edit v10. Until next time, as always, happy coding. L. Dan Hughes, VP/CTO

Already a pro using templates to speed up your work flow? Manipulated and finessed your command map for ideal purposes? Even if you haven't, there's yet another tool available in all the current versions of Multi-Edit that can help you shave valuable time off your production schedule: Recorded Keyboard Macros. The possibilities of this tool are nearly endless and not as complicated as some other options of automation. With the recording of keyboard macros there is no writing of code or templates, no figuring out the sometimes complex macro language. Merely hitting the buttons you want repeated altogether is all that's necessary. An example of this is that I've seen multiple users wanting to perform a specific search on a term, function or process, they do this a lot and wish to do it with just one keystroke. To accomplish this task, we need only to invoke the recording process in one of 3 possible ways: The Rec button in the lower right taskbar corner, the menu Macro | Record, or the assigned hotkey which in the default keymap is Alt+F10. After using one of these options to activate recording you will notice that the Rec button has now turned red and will remain so until you end recording your keystrokes by accessing one of the 3 ways you turned on the process. So, in my example I am working on an oft edited piece of code that is quite large and full of comments where changes have been made. In my comments I always put in a unique name sequence of "clh7070" and this is what I want to be able to find. After hitting the record button I hit F5 to bring up the search dialog. I type the string "clh7070" in the search dialog and then hit Enter. I then hit the record button to stop recording.
. Now, all you need to decide is if you want this macro active for the duration of your current session only, or if you want to make it permanent.
. If you choose to make it just for this session, you'll be asked next to choose a key assignment, and you're done.
. If you choose to make it permanent and always available, you will then get a slightly larger dialog that allows you to choose a few other customizations as well as choosing the keystroke you want it assigned to and the ability to modify your keystrokes if necessary or desired. I've chosen the open combination of Ctrl+Shift+F12 for my macro.
. Once finished there it will take you to the Recorded Macros dialog that will show all of your saved macros and allow you to play them back from here by selection, or edit or delete them.
. From here on out, whenever I'm in a file I've previously modified and commented, all I have to do is hit my hotkey for the search now and it will take me where I need to go. Another option of course, would have been to choose All on the search to get all the instances to show in your Find list. For further information concerning Keystroke Macros, and the myriad other customizations available in Multi-Edit, visit the Help File, or wait until my next installment of Tech Tips :) Carl Hall, Level 1/Level 2 Support
