For this newsletter I'd like to take a look at Font use, within Multi-Edit. We'll look at where they can be changed and how they can be used. First off, if you aren't aware of it already, most every customization that occurs in Multi-Edit occurs at the Filename Extension level first. There are many global customizations you can make if you desire, but the root of all changes first occur with the Filename Extensions. So, in dealing with Fonts, if you go to Tools | Customize | Filename Extensions and then choose whichever file type you are looking to customize and select Edit, you will find on the right hand side a box entitled "Fonts." Here you may select the "…" box to change the font that appears when editing this particular file type. Pretty handy, yes? Globally, if you venture into the area under Tools | Customize | Editing, you will find that you may change the Default editing font here. Either OEM or ANSI is available, and as a bit of a tease, version 10 promises the institution of Unicode, so keep your fingers crossed for that! Something to note, which is also found within the Help file, is this, Multi-Edit does not force either an OEM or ANSI "character set" while you are editing or printing files. Instead, Multi-Edit uses the currently selected font to display or print the characters in the file. What actually appears on your screen or printout will depend on which font you have selected in Multi-Edit. If you have an ANSI font selected and wish to insert or print a special OEM font character, you will most likely need to switch to that OEM font for that character to display properly. You should experiment with the fonts you have available to find one that's appropriate to your needs. Where printing is concerned, you can go to File | Print or File | Print Setup and choose the Fonts button down at the bottom to change how your files are printed as well. One final note, in using ME to print Line Draw characters, specifically making boxes and the like with this feature of ME you must have a font that supports this feature such as the OEM font, Terminal. If you don't have this font you should be able to find online such a font as Letter Gothic Line found here: http://www.dafont.com/en/search.php?nq=1&q=letter+gothic+line As always, any suggestions for a future tech article are always welcome at my email address: carlh@multieditsoftware.com ... |
