- Chad W. Williams
Welcome to Issue 8! As we approach the holidays and near ever closer to the end of this year, be aware that Multi Edit Software, Inc. will be closing our offices from December 22nd through January 1st. We will be resuming our normal operating hours on Monday, January 2nd 2006. If you happen to require any assistance during our holiday closure, please be sure to post any questions to our public forums to seek assistance from Multi-Edit users and staff. These forums will be monitored throughout the holidays. The CMac Submit Your Code Macro Contest is also quickly approaching its end. If you are working on your submission, be aware that the final date for valid submissions is on December, 21st 2005. If you've been procrastinating or have been dragging your feet on an entry, now is the time to act! We've received only a few entries so far, so the odds are in your favor!! For contest details and rules please visit http://www.multieditsoftware.com/CMacContest.htm. Carl Hall is providing everyone a sneak peek at one of the changes to expect in our next revision of Multi-Edit. Please take a moment to not only read the article but also to submit your opinions to Carl and be in time to have them considered in the upcoming build! Dan Hughes is also providing you with an inside look at Multi-Edit's new build, currently in Alpha phase. For those of you who are interested in commenting on Dan's article, or the new build of Multi-Edit, please be sure to post your questions to our forum at http://www.multiedit.com/forums/viewforum.php?f=3. Best Wishes to you and yours this Holiday season!!!

Development Updates from the VP
- L. Dan Hughes The End of the Year and The End of the CMac Contest
2005 is coming to a close along with your opportunity to win some great prizes for a snippet of code you prolly use every day. Send in your macros to be be eligible for the flat screen monitor and more. The "Submit Your Code Contest" will be ending December 21st, 2005 so get your entries in before it ends. Click the link, read the rules, send in your code! (who couldn't use an extra flat screen) : http://www.multieditsoftware.com/CMacContest.htm On a different note, we have announced that Multi-Edit 2006 will be coming along in the spring of next year. I thought it appropriate to mention a few things that have been added to the ME2006 arsenal. One thing that was causing issues for our Russian users was the use of the 0xFF character, which is a Russian character, as the virtual space characters when expanded following tabs in text files. The new version will have that changed to use 0x01 which isn't normally used in code. Also while doing the changes we added code to now show tabs and spaces in a nicer visual way when the "Display Tabs" option is checked. Another major change we are working on is updating the project manager to pull more of the project oriented features together in one place. Things like the VCS, Tagging, etc will be be better integrated with the project manager. If you wish to influence how the "updated project manager" works, there is still time to send us your ideas and we will consider them. Multi-Edit 2006 is the editor, you help create. Merry Christmas and Happy Coding!

The Issue 8 Support Article
- Carl Hall
What's the Tip of the Day and where can I stick it? So, ME 2006 fast approaches and I've been given the opportunity to update the Tip of the Day feature of the product, last updated a little while ago it seems. ;) So, given that, I'm looking for a little help from you, our loyal users. From those who've just purchased the product for the first time to those who've come up through all the various versions dating back to the old DOS days of Multi-Edit. What features do you find particularly handy? What is something that surprised you to find out Multi-Edit did that you weren't aware of initially? The Tip of the Day, as most of you are aware, is just a small write-up of something we think you may not know of and could find useful in your working with Multi-Edit and it pops up on each start up of the product, unless turned off. I know a lot of people who use various different programs may shun the Tip of the Day as some kind of beginner tool or at best an annoyance and I'd like to make it more than that. So, where to get started? First, take a look at what we've currently got. Under the Default directory of your current installation you can find the Tips.db file. Your first thoughts at looking at it may be fairly similar to mine: Wow, this hasn't been updated in a while. There are any number of things that will get immediately thrown out, others that just need some revision, but the big thing I would love to see from all of you is new content. What great feature within ME isn't listed here and should be? What work practices do you use that quickly make Multi-Edit an even more powerful tool that could help others? All submissions, small or large are welcome. If you want to take the whole Tips.db and completely adjust it and send it in, that's great! If you just have a single item that you feel needs to be added or corrected, you can drop in an email to me at Carl Hall: carlh@multieditsoftware.com. I really look forward to hearing from everyone! Until next time,
As always, any suggestions for a future tech article are always welcome at my email address: Carl Hall: carlh@multieditsoftware.com ... |
