Exciting News and Substantial Savings...

With Summer now fading behind us and Fall zipping along, we felt this was an appropriate time to announce our new "Fall" pricing. In our last email send we announced a Summer Savings discount and we received such an overwhelming response that we've decided to 'permanently' reduce our pricing across the board on our entire line of Multi-Edit products! Take a moment to visit our October Bonus Section for the updated pricing tiers and upgrade to the latest build of Multi-Edit, if you haven't already, to take full advantage of all the newest features.

As Summer ends, so too has our CMac Submit Your Code Contest come to a definite closure. We received many interesting and useful entries, but only a small handful made the eligibility requirements for first and second places. I'd like to take a moment to give a hearty congratulation to our winners of the contest: Our 1st place goes to Imre Dudas with his JAWS8 integration, 2nd place goes to John Martzouco with his RegEx Alias macro, and 3rd place to Warren Merrill with his Autonum macro. Congratulations to our winners and all who entered who also received an Amazon gift certificate entry prize. As always, we continue to strive to make Multi-Edit the editor created by 'programmers for programmers'. Your participation helps make Multi-Edit better, and we are always grateful to listen and be of service to you! So remember, all your questions, requests and suggestions, be sure to voice them in our forums at: http://www.multieditsoftware.com/forums/index.php.

In this issue of The Developer News, Dan Hughes has an exciting announcement, the release of the Multi-Edit 10.05.00 patch update. All Multi-Edit builds are now at the .05 patch and is now available for download. Be sure you're updated to the latest patch for new features, bug fixes and more! For complete information on what's included with this patch release for your release of Multi-Edit, please see Dan's article for all the details!

Are you an HTML programmer? Does your code include image references which you'd like to resize on the fly without the need for an expensive image editor? David Deley has provided you with an article on a new Multi-Edit 2006 feature (not included with Lite or SAS) ImageMagick. Take a few moments to increase your programming speed with the use of this new and powerful image support feature now included in the Multi-Edit 2006 .05 patch release!

Development/Product Updates from the VP

file documents image Multi-Edit .05 Patch Update!
Read what's New for You...

- L. Dan Hughes

The time has come for us to present to you the latest updates for our Multi-Edit 2006 product line. With this update, Multi-Edit, Multi-Edit Lite and Multi-Edit Lite for SAS users will all have the opportunity to go from 10.04.00 to the 10.05.00 build. This latest build includes new features, bug fixes and minor changes. For those of you using Lite and Lite for SAS be forewarned, you will receive the most updates as I have taken the build from .03 to all the changes offered with the .04 and the .05. Be sure to read the readme.txt file for a complete listing of all changes to your installation of Multi-Edit.

To obtain your Multi-Edit 2006 updates, take a moment to click on Help | Check for Upgrades and download the latest build for your Multi-Edit installation.

NOTE: When you've downloaded your update, be sure to CLOSE Multi-Edit PRIOR to selecting to run the installation. If you do not, you will receive errors due to files being in use and this will require a reboot of your PC.

all the new info about the product updates will be online Thursday, October 3rd, 2007 on our downloads page: http://www.multieditsoftware.com/downloads.php

Please be sure to post all questions or problems regarding this build to our support forums: http://www.multiedit.com/forums/viewforum.php?f=7 so that our entire development and support staff can assist with your questions and reports.

Keep an eye out also for our next issue as I will be continuing the discussion on our macro language in the next part of the series: Part 4 of Exploring CMac.

Stay tuned.

Until the next Newsletter...
Happy Coding!

David Deley's Support Tip:

file documents image Using ImageMagick inside ME

- David Deley

Are you a web programmer? Have you ever needed to resize an image within your code, view its thumbnail or just make minor modifications to it? Well now you can with Multi-Edit 2006 with newly provided integration for ImageMagick! Below I will provide steps to obtain, setup and get you started using ImageMagick with Multi-Edit 2006 (Lite versions not included).

To set up ImageMagick, simply go to:
http://downloads.sourceforge.net/imagemagick/

Click on the plus sign to open up 6.3.6-binaries, select to download ImageMagick-6.3.5-10-Q16-windows-dll.exe and when complete begin the installation.

Within Multi-Edit, go to:

Tools | Customize | Weblair - web editing
Check the option box "Use ImageMagick graphic utilities"
Fill in the Path with C:\Program Files\ImageMagick-6.3.6-Q16\
(Do not enclose in quotation marks)
Click 'OK'.

Now select an HTML file to edit which contains an image tag within it. For example:

Right-click on this tag and select "Edit IMG tag..." Multi-Edit's Weblair Edit <IMG> Tag dialog comes up. A thumbnail of the image will now display on the right side.

You can click the 'Browse' to select another image if you choose to replace the image current used.

Now we'll take it one step further and walk you through associating an image extension to ImageMagick as a Helper Application. To do this let's start with:

Tools | Customize | Weblair - web editing

Click the 'Helper Apps' button
Click 'Insert'
fill in the Helper Applications dialog:
File Type: PNG Image
Extension: PNG
Application: "C:\Program Files\ImageMagick-6.3.6-Q16\imdisplay.exe"
(This time do enclose the string in double quotes)

Now edit an HTML file with an image tag in it. Right-click on this tag and select "Edit IMG tag..." Multi-Edit's Weblair Edit <IMG> Tag dialog comes up. Again a thumbnail of the image will be displayed on the right side. Now click the 'Edit' button, and ImageMagick will come up and display the image full size for additional image editing options:

You may repeat this for additional image format types, such as GIF.

How To Find The Meconfig.Db And Wcmdmap.Db Files - Michele Hegwood

Attention Support Seekers!!! We have a wonderful tip designed to help you receive prompt solutions to challenges you may find yourself facing. When requesting support, it's often helpful if you can include a copy of your Meconfig.db and Wcmdmap.db files. This helps us quickly track down any issue you may have, thus lessoning the overall time spent trouble-shooting. Also be sure to include complete contact information, a well-explained description of the problem you are seeking support for, & registration information if available, i.e. serial number(s), company & contact information.

HOW TO FIND THE MECONFIG.DB AND WCMDMAP.DB FILES

A simple way to determine where the Meconfig.db and Wcmdmap.db files are located:

Open Multi-Edit

Go to MACRO -> RUN...
In the resulting RUN MACRO dialog, enter the command "SWITWIN /SYSTEM=2"
(without the quotes, uppercase, with one space before the slash)

In the resulting WINDOW LIST dialog, look for Meconfig.db and Wcmdmap.db .
They are usually listed at the top. To the right is the directory where each file is located.

(Note: If you've selected a different keymap, such as Borland IDE Emulation; Brief Emulation; Wordstar Emulation; Visual Studio Emulation; CodeWright Emulation; UltraEdit; EMacs; etc... then you'll see a different .db file listed, such as Borland.db; Brief.db; Wordstar.db; VStudio.db; CodeWright.db; UltraEdit.db; EMacs.db; etc... Send us that file.)

Before version ME2006 10.04, these files are usually located in
C:\Program Files\Multi-Edit 2006\Config\Meconfig.db

For ME2006 10.04 and above, the Meconfig.db and Wcmdmap.db file are usually located in a hidden folder:

For Windows XP and earlier:
C:\Documents and Settings\username\Application Data\Multi Edit Software\Multi-Edit\10\Config\Meconfig.db

For Windows Vista:
C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\Multi Edit Software\Multi-Edit\10\Config\Meconfig.db

Note that these are hidden folders.

To view:
Open Windows Explorer
TOOLS -> FOLDER OPTIONS
Select the VIEW tab

Under 'Advanced settings:', select "Show hidden files and folders"
(Later you may set this back to "Do not show hidden files and folders")

Feedback Feedback Feedback!!!

As I like to indicate in my emails, "Do Not Hesitate to contact me" at any time, with any need as it relates to ME. Again, my sole purpose is to aid you, and to create a more than satisfactory, enjoyable, experience with ME and all of our departments. Your feedback is essential! Without it, I cannont decipher when and where to improve upon our customer service.
