Introduction from the CEO

file documents image Hello and welcome to February's Developer News!

- Chad Williams

Since the days of DOS, Multi-Edit has been an industry leading editing/programming tool that has been the product of choice by fortune 500 companies, government, military, educational facilities and home based programmers. As many of our long time users know, Multi-Edit was originaly built on a Pascal based kernel. Although this kernel provided us many robust and competitive features in the market, limitations begin to pose problems over the years which could only be overcome with a complete rebuild of the kernel. Nearing the completion of this gargantuan task, we are pleased and excited by the bold new directions this newest Multi-Edit version will afford our users! Not only will it lift many of Multi-Edit's current limitations, but it will provide many new features, additional platform support and much more! Be sure to see Mr. Brown's article for a chance to participate in our upcoming Beta program and get a sneak peek of the NEW Multi-Edit.

As many of you already know from the support forum, David Deley is once again employed with MESI and is assisting with our support and development needs. We are extremely pleased to have Mr. Deley back on board and would like to request that you take a moment to welcome him back to the team! You can reach Mr. Deley via email at davidd@multieditsoftware.com Also note, that in this edition he has provided a development/support article for all you CMac users out there.

With our upcoming Multi-Edit release, Ms. Hegwood from our Customer Management Center is pleased to provide our 9.0 users a limited time opportunity to 'upgrade' to Multi-Edit 2008. With our new product release, not only will our product pricing change but our upgrade policy will be changing as well. Be sure to read her article to ensure you are 'eligible' for an upgrade, and a sneak peak at our upgrade policy changes and how you can benefit!

Until next time,

Chad Williams, CEO
Multi Edit Software, Inc.

- Brenton E. Brown

Welcome Multi-Edit users to 2010!

Welcome to 2010, we've gotten off to a great start this year. I would like to offer my thanks for sticking with us through the restructuring and revitalization of the Multi-Edit brand. It is our hope to continue to earn your loyal patronage by making your experience with Multi-Edit one of ease and comfort. To faciliate this goal, we have queried you, our users, and requested feedback on how 'you' have used Multi-Edit over the years. All this information has been at the forefront of our latest build, and has allowed us to create the best Multi-Edit possible.

With the hard work of our newly assembled development team I firmly believe that Multi-Edit will continue to be an industry leader. We've designed a more stable, robust and powerful kernel, that allows users unparalleled access to new features. Your input is invaluable to us and I would like to offer you an exclusive opportunity to "Beta Test" the most unique and powerful Multi-Edit release ever. We know that you will be amazed by the speed, versatility and ease at which you can navigate through this new build.

From the Support Desk

file documents image Undo in a Single Command for your Macros

When writing a macro it's often nice to save the entry state and restore that state at the end of the macro. Note the example below:

void test1()
{
Push_Undo; // Make the whole macro undo 1 step
...
Pop_Undo;
}

It's also nice to switch off Refresh, which will then speed up the macro. By setting Refresh to FALSE you will turn off the updating of the window display.

void test2()
{
int ti = Refresh; //save Refresh state
Refresh = FALSE;
...
Refresh = ti; //restore
}

If you want to temporarily set the Insert/Overstrike mode within a macro, then save the initial mode and restore it at the end.

void test3()
{
int im = Insert_Mode; //save Insert/Overstrike mode
Insert_Mode = TRUE;
...
Insert_Mode = im; //restore
}

Similarly, if you want to temporarily set the Persistent_Blocks mode within a macro, you can save the initial mode and restore it at the end.

void test4()
{
int pb = Persistent_Blocks; //save Persistent Blocks state
Persistent_Blocks = TRUE;
...
Persistent_Blocks = pb; //restore
}

Our Upgrade Policy and You

With the release of our new Multi-Edit build approaching, we want to make sure we provide all our end-users with a chance to upgrade to our most current build Multi-Edit 2008, which will be the only build eligible for upgrade in the near future. Currently our Upgrade Policy allows for users who are within two releases of the new version a path to upgrade. Our new policy however, will be changing to allow only registered users of the prior release an eligible upgrade path. This newly updated policy will be posted on our website as well as posted in an article from me prior to the new product release

As with any new product release, it is our intention to be as fair as possible to those who purchase prior to the availability of a new release. It is our 'policy' to provide a 'Free Upgrade' to the new release to all users who purchase within 45 days prior to a newer release. That said, I am offering existing Multi-Edit 9.0, Multi-Edit 9.10 and Multi-Edit 2006 users a chance to upgrade now to Multi-Edit 2008 before your upgrade path to our upcoming release is lost. Users who purchase during this exclusive opportunity will automatically be eligible for a FREE UPGRADE to the full release of our NEW Multi-Edit build. This offer applies to both Lite and full release versions of Multi-Edit.

Act now as this offer will ONLY be available through the end of February 2010. Act now, SAVE MONEY and guarantee your FREE Multi-Edit Upgrade!

*In order to purchase as upgrade, you will need to have ready your valid version 9.0, 9.10 or 2006 serial number. These licenses will begin as shown in the following examples

Multi-Edit 9.0 - TEMPE-XXXXXXXXXXX
Multi-Edit 9.10 - ME91-XXXXXXXXXXX
Multi-Edit 2006 - ME2K6-XXXXXXXXXXXXX

I have requested that our cart allow for acceptance of the 9.0 licenses so that all orders can be quickly handled from our online ordering system. If you encounter any issues please contact me directly at sales@multieditsoftware.com and I will be more than happy to assist you. As always, we also accept credit card orders and PO's via fax, phone, and email.

Always at your service and available for any questions,

Michele Hegwood
