Multi Edit Software's, The Developer News
- Chad Williams
Another year, exciting new directions, MESI is starting 2012 on track, with our impending release of Multi-EditX! Kelvin Tan, our senior developer has notified me that we are ready to begin our Alpha Testing Phase next month! And many of you can already guess what, or rather who'll I'll be needing, to complete this new phase of development.
In order for us to move quickly through and onto our Beta release, we need ME Alpha Users. We are officially inviting any 'Veteran' Multi-Edit users to apply to be 'Alpha' testers Program. Simply send an email to sales@multiedit.com and provide us with a brief background on your Multi-Edit usage/knowledge, current version, how long you have utilized Multi-Edit and of course your contact information.
I will personally be contacting the applicants in February prior to the Alpha Phase kick off, with an official acceptance email.
Thanks as always for your help in making this the most powerful build of Multi-Edit to date. I am truly looking forward to working with our Multi-Edit Alpha Test Team.

What a difference a Year makes...
- Michele Hegwood
Welcome to another exciting & ambitious year with Multi-Edit Software Inc. This time last year we were announcing a most unfortunate delay in the finishing of our anticipated release, MEX, & putting together a different, but very solid team of developers to design a more stable, concentrated kernel, that will contain many new exciting features. Be assured Multi-Edit has not stalled & is in fact still in furious development; we've simply encountered developmental delays, which has affected our anticipated release date. Yet with the hard work of our newly assembled development team, I firmly believe that Multi-Edit will continue to be an industry leader.
I am also very pleased to announce we are readying for our Alpha Phase next month. And that means, we will be implementing the release of MEX as a solid build by mid-year 2012.
As we progress through this timeline, we will be providing our users complete updates and our status/progress, in the coming months, beginning w/ the February edition of 'The Developer News'.
With the impending release of our new Multi-Edit build approaching, we want to make sure we provide all our end-users with a chance to upgrade to our most current build, Multi-Edit 2008. Please note, ME2k8 will be the only build eligible for upgrade in the near future. And because of that, be sure to take full advantage of upgrading at a discount using coupon code "NEW YEAR." This code will provide you a full 10% discount on all Multi-Edit products.
Have questions? Need help? Feel free to direct all inquiries to our sales staff at sales@multieditsoftware.com & we will be more than happy to assist you with your needs.

Moving Custom Settings to a New Install
- Clay Martin
Have you found the need to move your copy of Multi-Edit (ME) to a new computer? If you have the latest versions of ME 2006 or ME 2008, you will have no problems with the latest Microsoft operating systems. But what about all your customizations? Well ME has a built-in system to allow you to move your settings to the new install. Keep in mind that this only works reliably if both installations are the same ME version.
First step is to get the settings from your old computer. Go to Tools-Customize-Import/Export. Import/Export allows you to transfer Color Schemes, Command entries, Compiler Entries, Compiler Types, File Extensions, Languages, Menus, Templates, Toolboxes and Auto Export an Extension.
About the Dialog
Type: This field is used to select the "Type" of settings to be exported. The field below will remain in a grayed out state until Compiler Program or Templates are selected. When one of these choices are selected, the drop down below Type will be available to select the proper Extension or Language to be exported.
Filespec: This field is used to select the name of the Multi-Edit 'export' file (*.mcx) and where it will be stored.
Start by selecting the location of the file we will use in the Filespec field. Then select the first Type of setting we will work with, let's say Colors. Pick Color out of the Type selector. Below will be displayed all the color maps for your installation. Select the ones that you have customized, you can select multiple entries by using the Cntl or Shift key with the mouse button. Then press the button with the right pointing arrow. The items you have selected will show up in the tree (Export File) to the right.
You can now move on to the next type of customization you want exported. There is no need to export items that have not been changed from the factory defaults. If you have templates that you wish exported, first select the Type selection for Templates. The lower box will list the template groups (languages). Select the one you are interested in (Like CMac). In the box below will be listed each template in the CMac template set. Again, you don't need to select the templates that ship for that language, just the ones you have added or modified. When you are done selecting, just press the right arrow button again.
When you have added all the customizations you wanted to the export file, press the Export Button. You can now copy that file to a USB chip or whatever method you will use to get the file to the new computer. Then on the new installation of ME, open the Tools-Customize-Import/Export dialog. Use the Filespec control to locate the file you exported. In the right pane select Export File, and press the Import Button. You are all done and can enjoy your old customizations on your new machine.
Please Note
There are a few points to be aware of: Entries with trailing spaces in the name field will not show up in the list of items available for export. Once an export file has been imported, some manual cleanup may be necessary due to the way MEW handles WCMDs. If a script tries to create a WCMD that already exists, a new WCMD number will be assigned. Any menu item or toolbox button that references the old WCMD number, will be tied to the wrong command. Any changed WCMDs can be identified in the >updated script filename<.LOG, which can be found in ME's \Config directory. The following Forum Post can help you locate the directory. http://forums.multiedit.com/viewtopic.php?t=2013
